The pearl of Tyrol
Enjoy a stroll through the historic fortress town of Kufstein. Our walking tour around the fortress hill lets you discover the most beautiful sights.
Duration: 1.5 hours

Kufstein
The famous Römerhofgasse
Our guided walking tour takes you along the Inn River and through the charming Römerhofgasse. Strolling through this winding, narrow alley with its cobblestones, oriel windows and hand wrought-iron inn signs is like a journey into the past. Numerous facade inscriptions and paintings reveal like a picture-book the history of the town and its inhabitants.
One of them was Karl Ganzer, composer of the famous “Kufsteinerlied”. This song has contributed greatly to Kufstein's fame and ever since Kufstein has been known as "the pearl of Tyrol".
His traces lead us to the Auracher Löchl, Kufstein's oldest inn. The Auracher Löchl is an incredible 600 years old. The foundation stone of the house was laid in 1410, when an ice storage gallery (the Löchl) was driven deep into the mountain. Today this mystical rock cellar houses the Gin Bar and the world's largest Gin collection.
Other sights on our way:
- Inn bridge – with a stunning view up to the fortress.
- Lower Town Square – the former market square with its colourful town houses.
- Town hall – coats of arms of Tyrolean towns adorn the facade.
- Parish church of St. Vitus – the Gothic building was completed in the early 15th Century.
- Upper Town Square – with the most beautiful Art Nouveau building in town.
Kufstein Fortress
The fortress, Kufstein's landmark, towers on a rock high above the town. Its thick walls are home to the Organ of the Heroes. With its 4,948 pipes, it is the world´s largest outdoor organ. Its sound can be heard throughout the town and far beyond the city limits.
