Seefeld

From a pilgrimage site to an Olympic resort

Seefeld has been the venue for 3 Olympic Nordic competitions, has hosted the Nordic World Ski Championships twice and is the annual organiser of the Nordic World Cup.

Our guided walking tour starts at Europe’s highest Intercity-Express train station, which is located directly at the entrance to the pedestrian zone.

Passing the Seefeld Casino and the Kurpark, we will reach the beautiful village square with the Gothic parish church of St. Oswald. For a long time, it was one of Tyrol´s most famous pilgrimage churches. It owes its fame to the so-called "Host miracle", which occurred here in the 14th century.
Emperor Maximilian I showed great interest in the Seefeld pilgrimage and commissioned the construction of a monastery next to the church in 1516. It was later entrusted to the Augustinian Order. Today, the former monastery houses the 5-star Hotel Klosterbräu.

From the parish church, our guided tour continues along the Way of the Cross up to the parish hill with its stone circle, symbolising the 12 apostles.
Our stroll concludes at Seefeld´s landmark, the Seekirchl.

Our Tip:

• A visit of the Seefeld World Ski Championships Arena and it’s World Cup tower.
• We recommend a hike or a horse drawn carriage ride around the “Seefelder Wildsee” or to the alpine pasture hut “Wildmoosalm” (duration approx. 45 minutes).
